i think there are some interesting reads to be made about the cyclical and mutually destructive nature of 2B and 9S’ relationship, but the fact is that this is by neither of their own faults so much as that of the system they exist in. the tragedy of their interactions with each other is that neither of them wants the destructive relationship that they have, but they are bound by their duty to the vision of humanity to uphold it. this is why Ending E is so uplifting: because they are no longer burdened by the violent framework that has defined their entire relationship up to this point, and they are free to live their lives as they truly want.
