i don’t really buy into the circlejerking about tumblr users broadly being that much smarter or well behaved by their own merit than twitter or tiktok users. it’s just largely a side effect of mass shock reactions not being incentivized in the numbers game as strongly. i think the people reluctant to leave post 2018 generally are more inclined to prefer to look at things more carefully, and it’s more difficult to shove things you hate into lots of people’s faces here, but when i look at people’s ideas and how they treat each other between tumblr and twitter at least, accounting for like age, i see more similarities than differences. people are kind of the same
can’t help but think that a lot of the issues with how insular online communities conceive of neurodivergence stem from how the discourse necessitates the imagined existence of a mythic group of ‘neurotypicals’ cogently and unambiguously free of the social knottiness that certain neurodivergences can entail (“all ‘neurotypicals’ experience X,” “no ‘neurotypicals’ experience Y,” etc) rather than understanding neurotypicality as an enforced social norm to which we are all expected to comply and fall short of to varying degrees
it’s always funny when someone comments on eurodance like “why don’t they make music like this anymore” because they DO and it’s one of the most creatively stagnant genres on earth (spoken with love in my heart for it)
all you need to make eurodance is one female vocalist (mediocre-to-incredible), one male vocalist who Cannot sing but can say shit like “I’m a sex king man with a party plan / international nation hand in hand” in a deep voice, and an apartment somewhere in italy
the “literature vs fanfiction” arguments continue to be very insane to me because the conflict largely seems based around what i can only describe as an incorrect set of parameters, which means i don’t think it’s possible to engage with the “discourse” on the terms they’re presented as having and manage to say anything all that intelligent or productive
this is also how i feel about the “minimalism vs maximalism” thing except that one has a very loud overtone of “holy shit you guys are so easily tricked by trad chuds who just make stuff up about art history and philosophy” and also “no aesthetic doesn’t have a connection to politics but politicizing pure aesthetic in order to make adopting aesthetics a form of political action is not actual meaningful political action and distracts from the actual affecting systems in play” which seems very obvious so it arguably pisses me off more
