Today, someone has been lamenting that all stories which feature LGBT characters are about the characters suffering, sorrowing, going mad, and dying. Yesterday, someone was lamenting that all stories which feature LGBT characters are frothy, fluffy, happy stories where nobody has any serious problems and the characters are unrealistically sweet and wholesome. The person making the first complaint (proudly) only reads Very Serious Important Literature and watches Very Serious Important Cinema. The person making the second complaint (just as proudly) only watches children’s cartoons. This is literally true, but it is also a parable.

this 🤏 close to vomiting out some incomprehensible post analyzing the appeal of clark and malfina’s relationship dynamic

this has crossed my mind a bit so like: any other wlw out there have a hard time identifying with “sapphic”? like it’s hard for me to describe why i don’t really vibe with it. it feels too safe and neat?? also, i don’t strictly associate it with femininity, but i do associate it with a kind of femininity/way of relating to being female that i don’t identify with. i don’t really feel or seek a connection to its classical origins and i don’t particularly find comfort or liberation in the romance(?) of being wlw it kind of denotes. it’s clearly very useful to a lot of people, but i’m just like… that’s not me??? is that a discussion that exists?

obviously the draw of the song of achilles is patroclus and achilles and their characters + relationship, but after reading it i can’t stop thinking about thetis and deidameia and how much of a skillful balancing act it was to pull them off. like the specific combination of their antagonistic roles in the story along with the setting and the type of story and the limitations of patroclus’ pov would have made it easy for them to end up flatter than they did, but they are so human and fully realized and sympathetic. too tired to elaborate but i found them so compelling and intriguing for so many reasons and i appreciated their depiction

just finished the song of achilles

having text posts that get popular on here is a curse the way to win is to post things that get no notes and make people unfollow you
